Thanksgiving Menu
Ok it's time to commit to a Thanksgiving Day feast menu!
Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday until 2 years ago anyway. I lost a baby on Thanksgiving due to miscarriage. I was 12 weeks pregnant when we lost the baby. It was a very traumatic event and to have to go through it on Thanksgiving Day just makes me a little sad every time I think of Thanksgiving. I'm sorry if I offend anyone by talking about my miscarriage. I have made it something I will always openly talk about with other women. When I went through it I felt so alone and lost. I only had one person I knew who had lost a baby. I felt alienated from other women, friends who were uneasy around me. I was scared about the process and my feelings. I really felt like I needed to know how other people dealt with this kind of loss.
Anyway, this year I am trying extra hard to be joyful and thankful for the beautiful children I have here with me now.
Back to the topic at hand, the FOOD!
- Turkey (still deciding on size and method of cooking)
- Dressing/stuffing
- Gravy (this is a tricky one, from the bird but I always have other canned turkey gravy on standby)
- Real mashed potato's (no flakes allowed)
- Sweet potato casserole (found a new favorite recipe last year!)
- Fresh cranberry & raisin sauce
- Canned cranberry jelly (yes, have to have both)
- Fresh green beans and red peppers (I am forgoing the green bean casserole this year for my older daughter who hates it)
- Rolls (or possible beer bread)
- Deviled eggs (because my husbands mother always made them for him on Thanksgiving)
- Pumpkin pie
- Cool whip
